Just about 17 months ago I had to have surgery on a valve in the blood vein in my leg. This is the second time a valve has failed in the same leg. The surgery site became infected with eight different bacteria and since then I have had to clean the site 1-2 times a day with an acidic wash solution, been seeing a wound therapist 1-2 times a week to try and clear it up, I’ve been through maggot therapy, used a med-vac putting acidic wash directly on the wound and more. In December of 2017 my medical team of doctors, surgeons (3), contagious disease doctors, wound therapist and more decided that they have tried everything and there were two choices left.
1) Continue see Wound Therapy weekly and just keep it how it was.
2) Try one more thing, a skin graft.
Needless to say, we went with the skin graft. It’s been two months since the surgery and my 6-1/2″ x 7″ open wound is now the size of a quarter and healing nicely. Today’s surgeon visit was wonderful, keep doing what I’ve been doing (changing out the blue therapy pad daily) and unless the area starts getting worse I do not need to see the doctor, surgeon or wound therapy anymore. YES!!!!! I have been cleared by doctors to finish up the healing (est. 2-4 weeks) and then start being normal.
In the time the past two episodes occurred (36-40 months) I have worn long pants may a total of six times, one being my daughters wedding and the others was visiting my son in N. Dakota. The same goes with wearing shoes, I have had to wear flip flops as shoes would rub right in the vent of the main site where the surgery was done and it would never have healed. YES!!!!! I have been cleared by doctors.
Sorry, but my wife says the photos of my leg are to graphic to post.
