This post will cover days 2-4 for when mom was in the Sutter, Roseville hospital. It takes the surgery center almost 4-1/2 hours to locate a room for mom. In a hospital with 300-325 beds you would think they would have rooms open for patients coming over from surgery and not make them wait in the surgical recovery center.
With mom now in a pretty nice corner room with a view of the hospital wing next door, however if you walk into the hall way and 8′ to your left there is the end of the hall with windows on three sides and about 180 Deg. of trees, which almost cover up the sight and noise of Hwy 80 to Reno, NV or San Francisco, Ca. So with a room also come the in take, vitals every three hours, medicine, doctors and minimal sleep because this never stops.
The second day when the doctor arrives he’s explaining everything to us and with mom being out if it her trying to explain thing to the doctor is hard enough because I’m having issues with understanding her. With her pain they are going to be adding, Ultram to her regimen and are holding off on her normal Meds for now. There apparently was an issues with her heart last night in that she was having a Heart Rate (HR) of 115-125 and a Blood Pressure (BP) range from 86/53 – 115/97 the cardiologist here has been called in and does not seem to concerned with it but will have them put on a monitor and send the info to his office so he can monitor her just in case.
Today the goal is to get her up and into a chair, the issue I’m having is that they are also giving her Ultram before therapy begins which knocks her out. The nurses have apologized for it over and over but are only following the doctors orders. Talk about what pain Meds due to people, last time mom was on it she was seeing penguins on a party boat in her room and just yesterday all the nurses were walking around like penguins. She swears doctors have added/removed Meds from her regimen and I know for a fact that it did not happen and the only way to prove it is to call the doctors office and let her listen in (happened twice today already and it’s only 8:46 am. I’m ready for discharge if they come by today, care facility is set up as well as the transportation to get her there.
We did have the hospital
pastor stop in to speak with mom and we all got to talking, he’s a 7th Day
Adventist, moms internal Medicine doctor is Buddhist and mom is Catholic, what a mixing pot. We got to discussing care and after care which
Lead into caregiving and then into all of our site and he was amazed that there are people that do what we do in helping others dealing with their pain, recovery and more. He wrote down the six website addresses I could remember and ask if he could pass them out as he runs into people that need a boost. He also asked that I thank all of you for what you do and the ministries (websites) you’ve put together.
I do notice that I’m going to need to pick up her hearing aids, some cloths, pads, briefs, etc. I’ll grab another copy of her “Information Sheet” for the care facility also. I will try and get a new CareGivers Business Card with my contact information on it. With hallucinations, medication interactions, pain yelling when she try’s to roll over my emotions are on a roller coaster ride. This should keep everyone up to date, I hope.
