What I’m “Holding Off Of” for Lent, 2/18/15

This post has really nothing to do with my normal caregiving, pain talking, to much time mom posting blog, but everything to do with Lent. If you forgot or don’t know today is Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. Lent is the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday when you are to get ready to celebrate the resurrection by getting in touch with our need for Jesus. So, Lent runs from 2/18/15 – 4/4/15 and in that time you are suppose to give up an item or subject or other items, showing the cleansing or that item.

This year I am going to give up, Starbucks. Yes, if you follow, #coffeewithacaregiver your most likely saying to yourself, “Wait, every 2 out of 5 pictures Richard posts has to do with Starbucks and he talks about it even more. How is he going to give it up?”

I’m giving up Starbucks at the same time mom is giving up her top favorite fry’s and potato chips, all of them. With her heart health, COPD and the issues she has with her weight can cause other issues worsening issues with all of the above mentioned. If me cutting out Starbucks for 40 days helps mom lose some weight my cutting out, let’s put it straight, her salt intake which makes the body retain water because salt is a diuretic, in turn causing weight gain, then I’m all for it.

If you don’t think you can remove something for Lent, then try doing it with a friend or family member. You would be surprised how easy it is to do when you have support. I would like to hear if your giving up anything for Lent and if so, what? Happy Lent everyone.

God Bless,
Richard K.
