Yesterday Trish received a call from EasterSeals who stated Robert was either sick or was having a cluster of seizures. Trish decided to pick Robert up and bring him home around 11am. In watching him through the remainder of the day we noticed a decline in him and Trish was able to get him into to see his doctor at 4:15pm. The decision from that meeting was to put him on a new antibiotic then last weeks.
Gearing down last night me and Trish agreed it would be best to let Robert stay home today and get some extra sleep to hopefully speed his recovery. Since we started caring for Robert in home (April 1, 2013) I have only cared for Robert for a full day once, when Trish was in the Los Angeles area at a work conference over a weekend. I don’t think I’ve yet taken care of him during the week when I had work also (Oh my).
Today has been a bit hectic to say the least. First, Sacramento, Ca. Is getting its first real big storm system which the news is saying will drop enough rain to take us out of the drought or at least put us at normal levels. Second, people are calling left and right to schedule their heater and a few air conditioner repairs, with that in mind, third, I’m also caring for Robert, Oz, Taz and Taffy.
“DON’T GET ME WRONG,” yes its hectic but I can handle it. I will be in more pain through the day, sleep terrible tonight from the pain, but I feel amazing for being able to help Trish and to spend some time with Robert (who’s semi sick) who needs some guy time every now and then. Robert did sleep from 9:00pm – 11:00am which allowed me to get through the morning rush of calls, but then I put the calls on hold to get him ready for the day (shower, laundry, brunch, etc) and I’ll call everyone back while he enjoys his brunch.
Even though I know I will be in more pain most likely through tomorrow morning, every once in awhile everyone has the need to do something that makes them feel like their needed. Yes people can tell you that you needed, but until we do it ourselves or should I say feel it ourselves it just does not sink in all the way. Give us something to do. I do help with laundry, meals and even with Robert but this is a whole different step.
I would like to say to Trish, my lovely, caring wife the person who has stood by me through everything, pain, medication reactions, mood swings, accidental physician created overdoses and so much more, THANK YOU SWEETIE .
We may be disabled, we may even be slow, wheelchair based or something else but we still have a lot to give, please let us.
