Tuesdays Thank You, 10/7/14

This “Tuesdays Thank You” is not for a company or group but an individual.  As most who read my posts we have done Friday nights dinners out as much as possible.  Of course you expect the host standing by the front door to help hold the doors open so you can get your wheel chaired caree inside without trying to come up with a new yoga pose, I would say this is part of their job.  This past Friday we decided to go to The Habit Burger which is great good and better yet its only 1/2 mile away.  After having a really good meal and two cups of peppers from their pepper bar, we headed out.  On the way out I was ahead of Trish with Robert as she was throwing away the last of our trash and stopped just short of the doors and before I could even get to the front of the wheelchair to start opening them a young woman stepped out of the “Order Here” line with two people behind her and held open one of the door for me and Robert, right at the same time Trish was opening the second door.  I can honestly say I don’t know when the last time was that this happened.  I mean not just someone holding the door as we’re going out just as their going in or vise versa, but to go out of their way like this young woman did.  I say young as she was maybe between 20-25 and when I’m 50, their young.  I was amazed at this, Trish even commented as she looked back to see where the young woman went, “She wasn’t even leaving.”

Wheelchair Door

With this I would like to say to all those that have never pushed a 220 lb person in a wheelchair and try to open a 60-70 lb door at the same time, try it some day it’s nowhere near as easy as you think.  And to the young woman who not only stepped up but stepped out (of line) to help a caregiver and his caree, Thank You from the bottom of my heart.  It is people like you that make me believe in people again.  Please keep doing what you’re doing, we (caregivers and carees) might only offer a simple thank you when your help is offered but we are thinking and feeling so much more.  Once again from myself, Trish and Robert, Thank you.
