Thursday’s Thank You, 07/24/2014

Today’s Thursday’s Thank You goes out to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Sutter, Roseville Emergency Room in Roseville, California and also the paramedics who got her there. In the past six days mom and I have had the pleasure of their company for what turned out to be two really badly sprained feet.  The results are, mom is having to wear two walking boots.  The first (right foot) for 4-6 weeks and the second (left foot) for 2-4 weeks. Both times we were there, I noticed more hospital security, sheriff officers, California Highway Patrol officers and prison guards following patients around.  All from prisoners needing care that couldn’t be treated inside the big house, to battered wife’s or girlfriends one with the boyfriend or husband right there making sure she didn’t talk and there was security trying to keep the two apart with a lone case worker trying to get the abused to open up, but only hearing, “I love him and he loves me, he didn’t do anything, I fell.”  I sure a first year, okay a 2 month intern has most likely heard any and all the stories.

Mom's New Shoes, 07232014     How many paramedics/firemen does it take?  Thank you to all of you who came out to care for my mom and drive her to the hospital. Oh, and the answer to the question is, eight. That’s right, between the fire department who came prepared with five personnel and the ladder truck for when they couldn’t make it in the front, back or rear patio doors, they were ready to go in through the roof. The paramedics arrived a short time later with another three personnel all nine (including mom) tucked into her little bedroom, trying to get her from the bed to their wheelchair which is a size between a normal wheelchair and those you see on airlines to go down the aisle way.  I guess if you have the right personnel and they are provided with the right tools to do their job things go off Mom Mobility Team, 07232014without a hitch. These two, well three teams of people go through some long day, longer nights and deal with people of all sorts, from those I spoke of earlier to my kind who try to make everything a joke to deal with the pressure but also to make those hurting hurt even a little bit less.  Things are only as serious as you want them to be, or as serious as you make them.  To all who work the emergency rooms and to those who get us there when we really need to get there, this “Thursday Thank You” goes out to all of you, if you don’t hear it enough or even if you’ve never heard it, Thanks for everything.
