Our Little Slice of Home

This blog is aptly named, “Our Little Slice of Home” and for good reason. During our re-model (carpet, interior paint and base boards) everything had to be removed from upstairs and what was left was pushed to the middle of the room and then everything that can be is covered is in either plastic or paper. Thursday the crew came in and replaced all our base boards, then yesterday the painters came in and prepped the house and sprayed the ceilings, trim and baseboards. Today they are rolling the walls, spraying the banisters and working on some trim. Finally on Sunday they should finish with the trim and small detail items. We can then start putting the blinds back on so we’re not, showing all our wares to the world. And we can get Roberts room back in somewhat order. On Wednesday the carpet guys will come in and install the carpet upstairs (we have a Pergo type floor downstairs) and then the only other thing is to put everything back. Other than this three day period we have been doing this re-model with Robert in the house. I understand it can be hard on him with all the disruptions but I also think it’s good to involve him and talk about everything we’re doing and get his input, he is part of this household and an adult and that he needs to feel that he’s part of it.

Here is a photo of our little slice of heaven of heaven. Trish is working on the top of a TV tray which is about 18″w x 13″h, with her coffee sitting
on top of a stack of boxes, my BBQ is acting as a file and misc. item shelf. The path to get through is at most 12″-14″ wide while the second path and my office is about the same. My slice consists of the printer is acting as my shelf of misc., my laptop is resting atop an 8″w x 8″d x 3.5’h bookshelf, finally my coffee/tea is placed on the condensing unit of our AC system. I’ve been trying to go minimalist but even I have to admit this is crazy.

With everything going on the added stress, the extra pain from the moving everything around, spending the past two days walking on nothing but ridged (concrete, wood) floors, which yes does affect someone with chronic back pain. The relationship between me and Trish has never been better, as long as she keeps letting me make all the decisions. (HaHa). This just goes to prove that no matter what as long as you have a clear picture of your future and a team (can be done with just one other) to help you get through everything and to help hold you up when you begin to fall, and I have a great team.
